Homeless Assistance Program

Rental Assistance:

  • Must have an eviction notice
  • Must only be 1-3 months behind on rent
  • We can only pay up to $500
  • Must agree to three months of follow up case management meetings.
  • Monthly income must be within poverty guidelines.

Case Management:

Assess basic needs

  • Link to appropriate resources
  • Set goals
  • Discuss budgeting and create a spending plan


Emergency Rental Assistance Program

Mifflin County received Act 1 Pandemic Funds to assist residents with unpaid rent or utility bills due to the impack of Covid-19.  Mifflin Juniata Human Services is now processing applications to distribute the emergency funding for eligible residents.


Eligibility Requirements Include:

  • Eligible expenses include rent, utility, and home engergy costs.
  • Eligible households include those with reduced income or financial hardships that were related to COVID-19.
  • You must also meet income requirements as stated below (eligibility can be found at www.compass.state.pa.us)

Information:

Must be a resident of Mifflin County who is RENTING as evidenced by lease and proof of ID however, funds will pay to move out of county.  Utilities paid if not paying leads to eviction (electric, water, sewer, gas, trash) - No phone or cable paid.

Utility Assistance

  • Must have a shut off notice
  • Must only be one month behind
  • We can only pay one month's worth of utility expenses
  • Must agree to 3 months of follow up case management meetings
  • Monthly income must be within the poverty guidelines


PHARE Program

Rental Assistance:

  • Must have an eviction notice
  • Must only be 1-3 months behind on rent
  • Maximum allowance for rental assistance is $500
  • Must agree to six (6) months of follow up case management meetings.
  • Monthly income must be within the AMI guidelines and availability of funds.

Case Management:

  • Discuss and develope a budget and spending plan that is appropriate for your family needs.
  • Link you to appropriate resources that will strengthen your basic needs and life style.


Energy Bank

  • Energy Bank provides heat assistance to residents of Mifflin or Juniata County ineligible for Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) benfits or rent assistance to qualified individuals.
  • There is no income eligibility, but copayment based on income does apply.
  • Residents ages 60+ and veterans are eligible for Energy Bank assistance regardless of receipt of LIHEAP benfits.
  • Financial health, energy conservation, and weatherization information is provided
