The Prothonotary/Clerk of Courts is the keeper of the Courts civil and criminal records.
The Prothonotary is responsible for filing: Complaints; Mortgage Foreclosures; Divorce Complaints; Custody Complaints; PFA's; Petitions; Motions; Court Orders; Judgments; Road Docket Matters, such as Eminent Domain and Declaration of Taking. Issuing Oaths and Writs. The Prothonotary collects costs associated with PFA's; Court ordered evaluations and costs that may be imposed by the Judge. The Prothonotary is given orders authorizing the issuance of bench warrants for civil matters.
The Clerk of Courts is responsible for filing: new court cases transferred from the Magisterial District Judge. The Clerk of Courts is also responsible for collecting criminal costs, fines, and restitution. The Clerk of Courts is given orders authorizing the issuance of bench warrants for criminal matters. The Clerk of Courts processes bail paper work for the Court of Common Pleas.
